Who and why we select in the agency

Job as a web designer is often sought after by applicants contacting our studio. Nevertheless, we refuse to most of them :( Why is this happening? We have identified several basic selection criteria and mistakes that are better not to be made to potential candidates.
Portfolio
The main thing that concerns portfolio: it should be! Absolutely no admonitions that you are an excellent and talented designer, just the portfolio has not yet been worked out, the art director will convince.
Several p Portfolio projects can always be done independently:
- You can do something for close friends and relatives;
- You can draw a website design a> for fictitious companies;
- You can redesign your own design for some we ll-known brands. If you are confident :)
In any case, portfolio is the main criterion. It shows the skills of a web designer, shows the attitude to work (for example, did he bother to arrange cases or shows a set of jeeps).
Thinking
Contrary to popular belief, not only creative, artistic skills are important in the work of a web designer. He works with a complex interactive object: a modern site is an automated sales tool, on the quality and reasonableness of which depends on profit, and sometimes the fate of the business.
Therefore, it is critical that the web designer when working with the project site as deeply immersed in the project. I thought not only about the visual, but also about the needs of future visitors to this site.
Attention to detail
This is noticeable both from the portfolio and the communication. Details are what distinguishes a great site from an average one. Attention (and even love!) To the little things, the desire to spend hours looking for the slightest opportunity for improvement - this is what distinguishes a classy specialist!
